Emmie is a teacher and librarian, inspired by the beauty of the everyday and the power of story. Her favorite childhood games were school and library and so it was no surprise when she earned a B.A. in Elementary Education from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and her MLIS from the University of Tennessee.

She is currently the librarian at her alma mater, Percy Priest Elementary, where she takes great joy in sharing stories with her students. She reviews for BookPage and The Horn Book and teaches children's literature courses at New College Franklin. If she’s not talking, writing, or thinking about picturebooks she is probably hiking with a friend, at an antique mall, or rewatching a Nora Ephron movie. Two things she can never resist are chocolate chip oatmeal cookies and buying books for her two year old niece, Virginia.
