Dr. Johnnie Sue Hawley is currently the Media Specialist at South Side Elementry, a K-5 school in the Johnson City Schools District. She will begin her 27th year of teaching this fall and has taught at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. She began her career as a high school English teacher (12 years), then held at both middle (8 years) and elementary (7 years) library positions. She has also taught pre-k, as well as adult education and GED classes. She holds a BA in English from Carson-Newman, a MA in Library Science from ETSU, and a Doctorate in Administration from ETSU. . Her disseration is entitled The Evolution of the Library Media Center: A Study of the Past, Current, and Projected Future of
Library Services. She is currently South Side's Teacher of the Year and serves as TASL's Holston River Region Area Representative.
